Guide for performing one sample t-test using STATPOINT applet

1. Open your data file in Excel.

2. Select all of the data set you want to compare to a know value.  Copy it.

3. In your browser, click on the link to the STATPOINT and log in using your name, school and email address.

4. Under One Sample Analysis, click on Analyze a single data sample.

5. Click in the first cell of the Input data column.  Perform a paste operation.  The data will be put in the column with one point per cell.

6. Click on the t-test tab on the STATPOINT menu. 

7. In the Null hypothesis box, enter the know value you want to compare the mean of your data to.  In the Alt. hypothesis, check the option you want; to test whether the mean is not equal to the known value or specifically less than or greater than the known value. Click OK to perform the test.

8. A sample answer screen is shown below. In this example, the sample mean is 29.5 and it is compared to a know value of 35.0.  The P-value is 0.12 and the t statistic is -2.95.
