Guide for performing a One-sample t-test on the TI-83

1. Put the data for the activity onto a TI-83 calculator using a graph link.

2. Press the button and the statistics menu will appear. Press twice and confirm that TESTS is highlighted  on the top row. Scroll down using the key to choice 2: T-Test.  Press the button.

In the t-test menu, select "Data" for Inpt.  Then scroll down using the key to µo: and enter the "known or expected" value for µo.  Scroll down using the key  to "List."  Either enter a numbered list (L2) or press the key and then the key to get to the Named List window.  Select the list containing the data set and press .  Press the key until "≠µo" is highlighted.  Press the to select "<µo" to make HA: µ<µo.  Move the cursor down and select "Calculate."  Now press .

The screen will display the results of the t-test. If the mean is significantly lower than the "known or expected" value , the  p value  will be less than  the alpha level you selected.  For example alpha = 0.05 .
