Performing a Correlation Using a TI-83 Calculator

To start you must first enter the data sets into two separate lists. You can get there by pushing and then selecting edit from the screen. Put the data for enrollment in (L1) and the data for the employment rate in (L2)

After you have entered the data push to bring up the stat plot screen. Turn on stat plot one and make sure all of the settings are correct for this kind of graph. Change your window accordingly so that all of the data points will be viewed on the screen when graphed.

Once you have the graph on the screen you are ready to perform a linear regression on the data. To do this you need to push and then move the cursor to math and select #4 under that screen for linear regression. Linreg should come up on the regular screen now. If you are seeing this then you are ready to move on and if not go back and double check yourself to see if you have done everything right.

To finish the linear regression you need to push and select the (L1) list and then put a comma behind it. Do the same thing again except for this time select the (L2) list and put another comma after that. Now push and move the vursor over to y-vars and select #1 for function. Select #1 for the Y1 option.

When you have all of this typed in press to calculate the linear regression.

After you have done this, go to to see the regression performed on the data.
