Data Set:  The data you will analyze is from water samples taken from 3 sites on Blackwater Creek, Lynchburg, VA, to determine fecal coliform counts (colonies/100ml) under dry and rainy conditions in the fall of 1999. 

This data exists in Excel Data or Text format.

Analysis:  Using Excel, perform the most appropriate statistical analysis required to answer the following questions.  Print out a copy of the analysis you do and answer the questions in writing on the printout that relates to the question. 

  1. What is the mean, median, mode and standard deviation of the fecal coliform counts of the combined data (both wet and dry conditions together) collected at Sandusky? Is the data normally distributed? Explain how you arrived at  your conclusion based on the results of the statistics you performed on the data.
  2. Is there a significant difference in the mean coliform counts at the three sites for the data collected on wet days from Blackwater Creek?  Explain how you arrived at  your conclusion based on the results of the statistics you performed on the data.
